A Really Nice Brochure.

Family Services Brochure draft 3 in the making 6/13/2012
So recently I've been designing and making revisions for the Family Services initiative that Sewa plans to launch in August (click the link to find out more!). When I began the brochure I had a basic understanding of Photoshop, and I had never even opened Adobe's  InDesign program before.  But after watching Youtube videos for instruction and repeatedly visiting the help menu, I was pleased to finally have a product that looked (surprisingly) close to professional template quality.  Now, understand this was the FIRST object I had ever created from scratch out of Adobe photoshop/ Indesign. On top of that, the perfectionist in me put ridiculous hours of time into it (I was glued to the computer until three in the morning one night simply because I was obsessing over different color schemes).  So was I a little overly attached to my beloved first draft? Yes.  But after getting the critiques of the board members responsible for launching this new initiative, I remembered something that many film and english instructors had told me: ‘To be a great  artist, you must be willing to kill your baby!’ The heart of writing a paper, creating a short,  or in this case designing a brochure, lies in the process of revision.  If the critics have valuable input, and most times they do, use it to improve!  So, I did. And did. And did again. I have created five additional drafts since completion of the first a few weeks ago. It's tedious, but when I’m through, Sewa’s Family Services initiative will have a perfect and flawless MASTERPIECE  that clearly illustrates its goals and sentiments! ...Okay, maybe not a ‘masterpiece’-- just a really nice brochure.
